A transient bus glitch from a power surge or brief outage can produce E7 and will not return after a full reset. A hardware failure will return within minutes.

Reseat the harness connector between the UI board and main board
Unplug the refrigerator. On Maytag MBF bottom-freezer models the control harness routes from the front control panel down through the door hinge area to the main board behind the lower kick-plate. Remove the grille and press each connector housing firmly until it clicks. Inspect for corrosion before reseating.
On MRT top-freezer models the UI board is located near the fresh food compartment ceiling; the harness to the main board routes down the left inner wall of the cabinet.
