Enter the code shown on your refrigerator display

Is it safe to keep using it?

Depends on code severity. Low/Medium codes often allow continued use, High severity requires immediate stop.

Can error codes be reset?

Some codes clear after power cycle. Persistent codes indicate underlying issues needing repair.

When should I stop using it?

Stop immediately for water leak codes, burning smell, or any High severity error.

Low Medium High
Code Meaning Severity Common Symptom
CF Display comm fault High The user interface panel stops refreshing and shows blank or scrambled temperature and mode indicators. View DF Defrost not completing High Frost accumulates over multiple defrost cycles and eventually becomes visible as a sheet of ice on the back wall of the freezer or on the evaporator coil panel. View E1 Freezer temp sensor fault High The control panel shows "- -" or an unrealistic temperature because the board receives no valid signal from the freezer thermistor. View E2 Fridge thermistor fault Medium The control panel shows "- -" or an invalid temperature because the board has no usable signal from the fresh food thermistor. View E3 Defrost thermistor fault High Without the defrost thermistor signal the board cannot determine when to end the defrost cycle; it either terminates too early (allowing frost to remain) or too late (risking overheating the coil area). View E5 Ice maker fault Medium The Ice2O or MFI ice maker module exceeds its no-harvest timeout and the board sets E5, confirming that the production halt is not a temporary pause. View E6 Door switch fault Medium The board believes the door is open because the switch reports an open circuit, so it keeps the interior light energized — which also causes the compartment to warm from bulb heat over time. View E7 Main board comm fault High The display stops updating and button presses produce no response. View FE Freezer temp error High The Maytag MFX or MFI control panel shows FE alongside a freezer temperature significantly above the 0 °F target, indicating the freezer has lost adequate cooling for a sustained period. View IC Ice maker module fault Medium The Ice2O or MFI ice maker module has halted its operational sequence completely — the harvest motor is silent, no water fill valve activation is heard, and the bin remains empty. View OP Door open alert Low A repeating beep sequence sounds after the door has been open beyond the safety timer. View PO Power outage detected Low The control board sounds an alert and displays an indicator the moment power is restored after an outage. View RE Fridge temp error High The Maytag MFX or MFI control panel displays RE alongside a temperature significantly warmer than the 37 °F target, confirming the fresh food section is not cooling adequately. View SY CE System communication error High No water, ice, or button feedback from the dispenser — the panel appears powered off while the rest of the refrigerator operates. View SY EF Freezer evaporator fan fault High The compressor is chilling the evaporator coil, but without the fan to distribute cold air, the freezer compartment warms steadily and ice cream softens or food thaws.
