Enter the code shown on your dryer display
Is it safe to keep using it?
Depends on code severity. Low/Medium codes often allow continued use, High severity requires immediate stop.
Can error codes be reset?
Some codes clear after power cycle. Persistent codes indicate underlying issues needing repair.
When should I stop using it?
Stop immediately for water leak codes, burning smell, or any High severity error.

Code
Meaning
Severity
Common Symptom
AF
Restricted airflow
High
A load that normally dries in 45 minutes takes 90 minutes or more and still exits warm and damp, because moisture cannot escape through the blocked vent.
View
BE
Drive belt broken
High
The motor hum is audible and the motor is running, but the drum remains stationary — the classic symptom of a broken drive belt on Maytag Bravos models.
View
DE
Door opened mid-cycle
Low
dE appears and the drum stops tumbling when the door is opened mid-cycle. This is expected behavior — the dryer is protecting against items or hands inside the drum during operation.
View
E1
Thermistor shorted
High
The control board disables the heating element in response to the shorted thermistor signal, which it interprets as an already dangerously high temperature.
View
E3
Exhaust over-temperature
High
The cycle stops unexpectedly and the dryer exterior is hot to the touch. E3 indicates the exhaust temperature reached the board's over-temperature threshold during operation.
View
F01
Main electronic control fault
High
Pressing Start produces no cycle — the display may cycle through a startup routine and return to the fault.
View
F02
Stuck keypad button
Medium
One or more buttons do not respond normally — the dryer will not accept a cycle selection or start command.
View
F03
Thermistor fault
High
The drum rotates normally but no heat is produced — the control has disabled the heating circuit as a safety measure.
View
F26
Door switch fault
Medium
Pressing Start produces no cycle initiation — the control board is not receiving a valid closed-door signal.
View
F27
Moisture sensor fault
Medium
Loads that should exit the dryer damp-dry come out bone dry, or conversely remain damp, because the moisture sensor is feeding incorrect data to the control board.
View
F28
Control board comm failure
High
Button presses do not initiate any cycle — the communication link between the UI and main control boards is broken.
View
F30
Drum or motor jam
High
A foreign object lodged between the drum and cabinet produces loud mechanical noises immediately before the motor stalls.
View
F31
Motor tachometer fault
High
The motor may attempt to spin then stop, or the cycle simply fails to begin. F31 appears because the board cannot confirm motor rotation within the startup sequence.
View
FE
Flame error — gas dryers
High
The drum rotates and the motor runs normally, but no heat is produced because the gas burner did not ignite or the flame did not sustain through the cycle.
View
HE
Heating element fault
High
Clothes tumble but remain cold or at room temperature. The element is not energizing on any heat setting including High Heat.
View
L2
Low incoming voltage
High
The motor spins and the drum turns, but no heat is generated. On Maytag electric Bravos models the heater element requires both L1 and L2 legs of 240V supply.
View
PF
Power failure during cycle
Low
The display shows PF as soon as the dryer is powered up again, confirming the cycle was interrupted by a power loss.
